UK Carbon Budgets
The Climate Change Committee was established under the Climate Change Act 2008 and advises the UK and devolved governments on reducing emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change. It is their role to ensure that the assessment of progress and advice provided can be evidence-based, independently assessed and long term in its advice.
The Committee is required to produce statutory reports to Government and Parliament, including Carbon Budgets, which provide ministers with advice on the volume of greenhouse gases the UK can emit over a 5 year period.
