Updated Safe Use Guidance for the Use of Concrete Pumps

The British Concrete Concrete Pumping Group (BCPG), an interest group managed by the CPA, have launched their latest update to their Good Practice Guidance on the Safe Use of Concrete Pumps publication.

First released in 2004, the publication has since been subject to minor updates, with the latest version updated by the interest group over the last 18 months.

BCPG Safe Use Guidance 2025 Cover

The guidance provides the minimum requirements for the operation of all types of concrete pumps, including trailer and track-mounted units and placing booms. The guidance has increased from 46 to 55 pages and includes guidance on planning requirements, role of personnel, training and familiarisation, safe use, maintenance, inspection and thorough examinations.

Additions to the 2025 update include clarification to road transport, licencing and STGO requirements, increased information on pipeline cleaning and a new section for contractors on a criteria for the selection of concrete pump suppliers.

Brendan Murphy, Chair of the BCPG said, “The 2025 revision adds further clarification to many aspects of concrete pump operations but in the main, is testament to the longevity of the good practices that were first documented back in 2004. I thank the members of the BCPG working party for their time in updating this good practice guide”.
