Parliamentary Approval of The Supply of Machinery (Safety) (Amendment etc.) and the EU Machinery Regulation (Enforcement etc. in Northern Ireland) Regulations 2026 has now been made and will apply from 20 January 2027, which is also when the EU Machinery Regulation comes into force.
The updated Regulations ensure that the EU Machinery Regulation can be effectively enforced in Northern Ireland and maintain the continued recognition of CE marked machinery in Great Britain, giving businesses continued flexibility to use either UKCA or CE marking when placing products on the GB market.
The UK Government’s state that their approach will improve safety and modernise machinery legislation, reduce duplicative and costly burdens on business and ensure there is no friction within the UK internal market.

The Government intend to introduce similar measures in Great Britain to modernise the machinery safety framework and we, CPA, will provide a further update when we are advised accordingly
