The CPA has become a corporate partner of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) to allow both the free registration for apprentices and discounts to CPA members on the other professional membership grades.
The SOE are a Professional Engineering Institution and approved by Engineering Council to register qualified members for professional registration at various level, e.g. Engineering Technician and mapped to the Engineering Council’s competence specification.
The partnership is a result of a CPA Council request to provide professional recognition and CPD programmes to the various roles within the plant hire sector. A Council-led steering group is therefore undertaking a survey with the membership to determine the number and type of roles or occupations that would benefit from professional registration and CPD requirements.
In terms of plant occupations, a number of existing roles e.g. maintenance/technician are currently catered for, but the aim is to incorporate other roles where there is a desire for professional registration. A specification and membership level for those roles or occupations can be subsequently be devised.
Members are kindly requested to identify the role or occupations within their organisation – being the occupation/role title and a brief description of the duties – who they feel deserve or would benefit from professional registration and formalised CPD.
Please note that potential professional recognition is open to all roles within the plant hire sector for which will discuss with the SoE the various options.
