The UK plant-hire sector is worth £14bn, supports 191,000 jobs, and is highly capital-intensive, reinvesting around 26% of every pound into equipment.

However, plant-hire companies are still excluded from Full Expensing, with no clear Treasury timetable for when this may change. Rising costs from tax, National Insurance and wage changes are adding further pressure.

The new 40% first-year allowance from 1 January 2026 is helpful, but does not go far enough. The Treasury should extend Full Expensing to plant-hire companies to support investment, growth and fleet decarbonisation.
