This publication, first released in mid-2023 by the CPA’s Crane interest Group (CIG), provided a focus on the minimum standards required for the supply, management and operations of mobile cranes and provided a range of good practice advice on the expected standard of duties and the relevant responsibilities for both operators and crane users. The guide further covers relevant  legal requirements and aimed to raise standards and encourage sourcing from responsible mobile crane suppliers. CIG has recently revised the publication to reflect changing circumstances with mobile crane procurement, with the changes including enhancements on:

  • Suppliers and users as what is expected of each party, including responsibilities under the contract and insurance;
  • Competence checks and what to look for;
  • Explanations of legal duties of employers and what information should be passed to the supplier by a user prior to a contract lift;
  • Guidance on hybrid lifting operations and issues this can raise;
  • Movement orders, traffic management & road closure requirements.
